Sometimes its just called a "thyroid panel", or sometimes they call them by the individual tests t3/t4/TSH. An elevated TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) shows that the pituitary gland is working extra hard to get the thyroid to product thyroxin, which regulates your metabolism. In the case of hypothyroidism, the metabolism is running too slowly. If you get off of thyroid medicine, when it gets out of your system, you'll begin to have symptoms of slower metabolism -- low energy, sluggish behavior, unexplained weight gain, etc. Please find out if your previous Dr. has your medical records including the results of this blodd work to show to a new Dr. The bloodwork should prove that the problem needs attention. If you have done well on Armour, then you should stay on it. You aren't supposed to change thyroid meds unless the med you are on isn't helping. Sounds like you were doing fine on the Armour. If I were you, I'd find a new doctor. Having hypothyroidism and on Armour myself, I would not give up the treatment. I feel so much better than I did before Armour. I would start a new doctor search immediately. on www.about.com there's a thyroid forum that lists doctors. Perhaps youcoul check that out. Remember to call any potential doctor offices and tell them you are hypothyroid and on Armour will the doctor continue the same protocol.
