Hi. Not everybody with Hypothyroidism is over weight. I weigh 90 lbs., and i was diagnosed with Hypo a year ago. I weighed 105 lbs. when i was diagnosed, so i've actually lost weight since then, Nobody can tell you for sure if you will gain weight or not. I know a couple of people that have it, and they are not over weight either. You really have to be careful what you eat because it will be easier to gain weight when Hypo. I feel sick all the time, so i don't have much of an appetite. That's probably why i stay slim. I think if you've been slim all your life ( like i have ), you have a better chance of keeping your weight down. Good luck with your treatment <<<Hugs>>>

I have experience! I was treated with the radioactive iodine when i was sixteen. It did kill most of my thyroid, however i did not become hypo for about half a year. I started to gain a little weight and feel sluggish, so I got tested and put on medicine to get me back to normal. I have no trouble maintaining my weight, as long as you exercise and eat healthy, like normal, you should be fine.
