Hello, I am only 14and half years old and I was tested for thyroid problems as I put on some kg in the past months. Can someone explain me what all this stuff is… I know something abt hypo or hyper thyroid where you lose or gain weight. What treatment should i take and how can i still lose weight if i have hypothyroid? please help. btw the results of the exams i took will be given to me tomorrow. tx

does anyone here have a thyroid problem??
if so what where your symptoms??

A doctor, casually, mentioned I should get my thyroid checked. When I told my boyfriend he told me I officially went from a "fat girl" to a "fat woman" at 27yo—- "as older fat women always complain of a thyroid disorder as an excuse." My answer- and HIS ANSWER especially is to LOSE WEIGHT. I’ve been on Weight Watchers for 4 months— doing well too— but this leads me to ask if Thyroid malfunction is just a fat "womans" excuse or not.
I’m a size 10 though… and 5′8. I have a lil belly but I even have a personal trainer at Crunch and workout a lot! I think he’s just being a jerk!

I’ve recently had my dental amalgams removed and completed chelation for heavy metal toxicity (mercury, lead and aluminum), but I’m still showing signs of hypothyroidism (TSH 2.47, T3 4.0, T4 13.0)
Thanks, SkepDoc, for your, well, skepticism, but I’m looking for feedback from someone who actually has had experience with neural therapy. I’m very well informed about my options in allopathic medicine having been to see different GP’s and endocrinologists, not to mention I’m a healthcare practitioner myself. The only thing offered to me was a prescription for synthyroid and support for my decision to chelate.

Before starting Nature-Throid, my TSH was 8.89. On 2 grains my current TSH reading is a near optimal level (ideal being 1.5), though my T3 is still quite low and my T4 hasn’t ever changed despite my dosage indicating that I’m not converting to T3 very well.

So… back to my question, anyone out there who’s had a successful experience with Neural therapy for hypothyroidism?

i am 27 yrs old…i had poly cystic ovaries..so got my routine checkup…and now i have high tsh..but normal T4.I guess i am hypothyroid…i am yet to make an appoint ment with my endocrinologist…well..me being a med student i knwo the symptoms and i knwo the treatment…ofcourse i am feeling very depressed lately and i have gained like 10 lbs esily…so my question is to people who have seen people who have taken thyroid supplements….is there any weight gain even on thyroid replcement?
thanks in advance

I have just found out that i have hypothyroid, can anyone who also have this tell me some symptoms, treatment, and other experiences u may have had?

I have hypothyroidism. I have had it for 4.5 years now. Since being diagnosed it has been under control with medication and I have not had any problems with it fluctuating at all. My husband and I are going to beging trying to have a baby very soon and I have heard that women who have thyroid conditions have difficult pregnancies with all sorts of complications. Is this true? If so, what can I do to deter these complications if anything or at least ease them somewhat?

I need websites for special diet, herbal, or holistic medicines for a thyroid disorder.

I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroid a year ago, and hypothyroid a couple months ago. I supposidly have a goiter. The only time i had any symptoms was when my throid was level and on medication. I have stopped treatment, cause it only caused more problems, and symptoms. Does anyone know of alternative treatment? Please don’t tell me to ask my doctor.

I get cold intolerance and need to wear alot… of clothes.
bluish Fingernails…………….all seems to be thyroid disorder.

I just get my blood test and all data is good,
blood is OK
WBC is OK
fasting glucose is OK
T4 is fine, no thyroid disorder
doctor reply that I just need vitamin

so what is my problem? pls let me know…………
no anemia and no overweight.

I cannot do exerise as i feel so cold………

I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease in January of this year. I underwent the radioactive iodine treatment I-131 to kill my thyroid in February. After a visit to the doctor this last week I found out that I am now hypothyroid with a TSH level of 36. They tell me that normal is .2 to 5.0. I have gained nearly 23 lbs in one month but they say that it is water retention.

I’m assuming I still have the Graves Disease as I believe it never goes away. What are some of the symptoms of the hypothyrodism? My endocrinologist isn’t much help and tells me to research the internet for help instead of getting answers from her. How frustrating.

My question is, my level seems awful high? How long does it take to get regulated once you are on synthroid? What are some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism?

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a month ago and was put on Levothyroxine. I am still feeling run down and tired and my muscles and joints in my legs hurt so bad I can barely walk sometimes. Do I need to talk to my endocrinologist and get a different medication or do I need to give it a little longer? Is it normal to hurt so bad?

The Vascular Surgeon says i can postpond my surgery.I’m 27yrs and underwent two c-sections and under obesity grade II. I attend slimming courses where i was taking machine sessions for my thighs and hips for past 1 year. Can i continue going for this in spite of my varicose?

I have hypothyroid and normal menstrual cycle. Should i opt for surgery now before entering into any other chronic diseases? If so, which method would be suitable? (My surgeon told me that both laser and traditional surgery can be considered in my case). How far laser treatment is successful in southern part of India?Pls suggest.
My husband is not a doctor by profession. The doctor says that there is no urgency to go for surgery, but it has to be done one or the other day as the stockings will only not let things worsen but can never be a complete remedy.

When weather is around 12 (C) degree
my body temp is 35(C) in the morning,
cold intolerance and need to wear alot… of clothes.
bluish Fingernails and will be better after lunch/dinner or shower.
I cannot concentrate on my work and feel tired all the time.
And I have depression and dry skin, all seems to be thyroid disorder.

Will I get thyroid disorder because I have depression?
or I get depression because I have thyoid discorder
or it is something else?

I will check with my doctor, but can you give me some advice? thanks.

Hi i love yoga but haven`t done it for ages during which time i got hypothyroidism. Now i know that salamba sarvangasana and all the inversions are excellent for the glands (thyroid in particular) but can i actually expect my problem to go away by simply doing yoga regularly ? How much and how often should i do it ? Help - any yoga teachers out there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had RAI treatment for hyperthyroidism in December last year. I’m currently not on any meds, because the doctor won’t give me any. My TSH is currently at 4.7 and my FT4 is within normal range at 14. (normal range between 9-20)
I have really sore shoulder especially on my left side and sometimes have pins and needles in my hands.I do have anxiety , although I have not put on weight and I’m not really tired. Are these symptoms of becoming hypothyroid?
I go back to the doctors at the end of March to get blood test again.

I have hyperthyroidism due to hot nodules. Tapazole (methimazole) has not been an effective treatment for me, as in 2 and a half years I have only been euthyroid for a few months. I’ve had several doctors recommend the radioactive iodine treatment, and a thyroid uptake and scan reveals that my entire thyroid is asleep, because the nodule is overactive.
I don’t have Graves…

However, I would really like to cure myself naturally if I can, to avoid being hypothyroid in the future. Has anybody used accupuncture, herbal remedies or chinese medicine to shrink their nodules?

I have hypothyroidism, and one of the things it does to you is make you have a hoarse voice all the time. This is a problem for me because I love to sing, but my throat tells me no. I need some suggestions for what I can do for my voice. I can’t have anything with licorice root in it, it will mess up my thyroid. Thanks :)

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in June of 2005. I ahd the radioactive Iodine 131 treatment done in October of 2005. They never started me on any meds, for hopes that my thyroid would "kick-start" itself into producing the right amount of hormone. Well, that never happened. I was put on synthroid in Jan 2006 and have been up and down since then. Once they realized I needed meds my levels were: TSH >110.00 (normal 0.50- 6.00) and my Free T4 was <0.1 (normal 0.8- 1.5) and they checked my creatine kinase level which was 585 (normal is 0-165). Does anybody know exactly what your CK level is? Should I push to have more done about it? My levels still arent right, I think now Im getting to much meds. My hair is starting to fall out again and Im feeling sleepy all the time. Before I couldnt move and I got cramps in places I didnt know you could have cramps in. Thats when they realized I was so Hypothyroid. Any serious anwsers, please.
By the way, I am currently taking
200 mcg Synthyroid.

Hi,

After having a blood test in March, I have been diagnosed with a Thyroid disorder (I’m 24). Yesterday I had more blood taken, so they can run more tests. I’ve been reading about Thyroid disorders online, and have found that most of the ‘health related’ issues that have plagued me, are also Thyroid disorder-related symptoms.

Here are my symptoms:

Stuttering; not being able to finish sentences
Feeling very nervious & jittery
Feeling tired; wanting to sleep a lot
Not wanting to do any physical activities
Increased heat rate
Heart palpitations
Difficulty concentrating
Mild depression & sadness
Hair loss
Irritability
Low sex drive
Irregular menstrual periods followed by SEVERE cramps

Has anyone else experienced any of these symptoms? Is there anything to do to make myself feel better? I see my doctor again in 3 weeks, so what should I expect treatment to be? I’ve been afraid I might die. I HATE feeling this way, I just want to feel good again. HELP!!

<3Mia
I have also read that some people have died as a result of their disorder turning into thyroid cancer. I think that’s what scares me a little. But regardless….I just feel horrible and is there any cure for this illness? <3Mia

I have to get a blood test to check my thyroid, I think it’s a full thyroid panel or something like that. I want to know if it is a lot of blood/many tubes of blood. I tend to pass out if it’s a lot of blood, so I want to know. Thanks.

In 2005 I had radioactive iodine to destroy my thyroid because I was severely hyperthyroid and was hospitalized because of it. As a result of the treatment I am now very hypothyroid and I was supposed to start taking levothyroxine as a thyroid hormone replacement about a year ago but every time I take one I get hot flashes and a severe headache. I was quite angry with my doctor because I called numerous times about the pain these pills are causing and he just keeps brusing me off and basically tells me to deal with it! I would think a doctor would be more helpful and understanding and I’ve asked about other possible forms of thyroid hormone but he will not change my medication. I am also on blood thinners due to irregular hearbeat that started with hyperthyroidism and a beta blocker to keep my heart rate down. Should I switch doctors or will the side effects subside? I haven’t been taking any thyroid medication for almost a year now and my TSH is over 8! There must be a solution! Thx
Thanks for the advice! My FT4 was normal the last time it was checked. Not exactly sure of the number though! I am seeing a nurse every week to monitor my blood because of the blood thinner and see a doctor about once a year.
