I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year and a half ago. I have since been trying to find a stable dose of synthyroid with my endocrinologist. He believes that the 100 mg dose I am on now may be suffienct. I only have to see him twice a year now, instead of blood work every 6 weeks and an office visit every three months. I still don’t feel like my old self. I will admit that I feel about 80% better than I did, but the feelings of anxiety and depression are still lingering, worse sometimes than others. I am looking for your experineces with the illness, how you coped with it all, and how long after you were stable on your medication that you felt like your old self again. I have thought this whole time that something more serious is wrong with me, only my doctors can’t find out what it is. Did any of you feel this way? Thanks for the help.
I am 30 and have just been told that i have an Oestrogen deficiency (lab tests)
I was seriously depressed, night sweats, spotting, etc
I am wondering what caused it. I am now on treatment.
God knows i take all my b vitamins and dont smoke, drink or even touch sugar!
Can it be related to the fact that i am hypothyroid?
I did fast for 12 hours but i drank a bottle of fizzy club orange with lots of sugar about half hour before i got blood test..
How will this effect it? What will come up if it does effect it?
Am I crazy or shouldn’t these symptoms go away with treatment with meds? My levels are fine with the dose I am taking. Or is it possible I could also have an adrenal gland or cortisol problem? Oh and I also am experiencing shortness of breathe and some heart palpitations.
I HAVE JUST STARTED A TREATMENT FOR HYPOTHYROIDISM (EUTIROX)…IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THE TREATMENT WONT WORK? IM SCARED…
PLEASE HELP

So the doctor thinks i have one but would this be a reason i have irregular periods and i’m also quite a hairy person and im only 19..
Plus if i do have a thyroid disorder, when its fixed, will i be less hairy and will my periods be regular? Thanks
I am taking Thyroxin 150mcg daily. whenever there is a infection, I feel tired, body pains, headache and all that EXCEPT that I DONT run HIGH TEMPERATURE. Like everybody else, after taking in proper drugs, I feel alright after a couple of days.
During my chilhood when I have fever, I used to run high body temperature up to 104F. After the age of 28 or 29,there is no high body temperature. Even when I go to a doctor, he does not believe that Iam running fever and that i need medication and treatment.
I am a generally healthy person. whats wrong with me?
do you have it? what are your symptome? what do you do for it? i’m going to go to the doctor in a couple of week, and ask her to do some blood work. any other suggestions?

I have not been feeling well lately and was talking to a co-worker this morning. She suggested that I get my thyroid checked. I looked up symptoms on the net and of the 26 symptoms listed I have 20 of them.
The problem is that I have no insurance and money is tight and I hate to go have a test that is not needed. What are the chances that I am just a fat, cold natured nervous woman with dry skin and hair suffering from fluid retention, brittle nails, IBS who is always tired?
Not expecting a doctor but just use your good and functional brains and give me your unbiased opinion. Thank You
Lalitha- I dont have a low opinion of myself- those are the symptoms of a thryoid disorder!!!
It’s been 6 months of TTC with no results. I visited my OB last week who decided to redraw some labs and he called me tonight with my results. Apparently, my TSH level is 6.6 which makes me hypothyroid (I’ve been this way for awhile but I’m asympotomatic so never opted for treatment). My questions are:
1. How likely am I to become pregnant if I don’t get treated (tho I’m obvously going to start meds)?
2. For anyone in this situation, how long after treatment started did it take you to get pregnant?
3. For breastfeeders who were adequately medicated, did you have any trouble with milk production for your baby?
We also have to deal with my short luteal phase. I’ve requested to be treated with progesterone as a start, but he’s talking about Clomid and HCG because he thinks I’m not ovulating (though my charts show a clear temp rise, my LP is often only 8-9 days and he thinks that’s because I’m not actually producing an egg, which is very confusing to me.
I noticed people with hyperthyroidism should not take Claritin D and that all the negative side effects are consistent with hyperthyroidism, so I wanted to know if taking Claritin D would fix hypothyroidism.
I’ve been to the doctor twice to have my thyroid checked by a blood test, but even though I have alot of the symptoms of a thyroid problem it has come back as within range, but only barely within.
The blood test they have done is called T.S.H. levels.
So my main question is this: Do the thyroid (TSH) levels go up and down?
About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroid disease by some accidental blood exam. My sister was hypo too and a lot of symptoms started to make sense. God knows for how long I had been hypo.
However, now I have 2 hypo sisters and they have troubles loosing weight in spite of their treatment. I (hypo too) however am still very slim and have troubles gaining weight! I am 45 y.o. and my highest weight has been 69kg, now I am down to almost 64kg.
I regularly (1/year) have blood checks for my hypo:
T4 Free Thyroxine:
24 JAN 2008 15.0
07 OCT 2008 16.9
19 MAR 2009 15.8
TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)
07 OCT 2008 3.1
14 OCT 2008 2.9
19 MAR 2009 4.2
In my last exam (19mar) the T4 is apparently still regulated but the TSH came out marked (!) as higher than normal (4.2) but the general practitioner did not mention anything.
The problem is that for the past month or so I have had off/on pains on the (left) side of my neck (near the windpipe) and in the past 2 days the pain has been more annoying than usual, It feels kind of swollen there, more on the base of the neck than higher up. I have not gone to my GP because that woman tends to ignore my complains. My hypo was actually "discovered" by her replacement when she was on holidays (I wish she stays on holidays forever).
So, is this higher TSH related to that pain/swelling on the side of the neck?
I live in Europe but it could be that my diet is low on Iodine. I am trying to use iodized salt but with care (don’t want high blood pressure).
My treatment has been limited to a single pill of Thyrax Duotab (Levothyroxine sodium) of 0.025mg per day.
I am 26 and I am taking synthroid for hypothyroidism anyone know anything about breakthrough bleeding and when it stops…45 days now and Im starting to lose my mind…any advice?
thank you all so much!
Im not on birth control pills maybe it would help?
How much would any kind of hypothyroidism treatment cost?
i was diagnosed with hypothyroid (autoimmune as my antibodies are rocket high) and my endocrinologist has started me on 50ms of levothyroxine, i started this treatment 4 days ago, he also advised i eat small meals throughout the day (i was eating 1-2 meals a day trying to prevent any more weight gain)….so for 4 days ive been taking levothyroxine and eating 4-5 small meals a day, im already starting to feel so much better, i feel more awake in the morning, and my energy levels have lifted, my stomach even feels flatter…. but i thought it takes weeks before you notice any change? so is it the diet thats making me feel better? or maybe its my mentality?, as i waited 6 months for the right diagnoses and was so thrilled to finally be put on the right medication…..
please let me know fif you have had this and do they grow back and why does this occur? thanks
clare
I have recently had my thyroid medication upped. She said I could tell a difference in 6 weeks. I believe its a whole lot sooner. Any opinions on this?

idk what to do??
Hair is thinning what can I do?
Hypothyroid wiry crinkly hair: what component is it missing and…?
is it reversible? I want to know what component is the hair missing that causes it to crinkle up? I have been experimenting with many conditioners and treatments but none seem to help the hair that has already been affected. Is this even reversible or is that hair permanently damaged? Is there anything I can take or rub on my scalp to prevent more hair from crinkling up? My hair used to be straight and soft, now it’s crinkly on the crown of my head.
I had a very high TSH level (93.16) and also my potassium was high (not sure what the level was). My doctor said that’s common with hypothyroidism; however, I can only find it common with hyperthyroidism. Any ideas what could cause high potassium levels?
