I was just diagnosed and will be starting med soon. I’m just wondering how long for med to improve symptoms like fatigue and hair loss?

I have Graves’ Disease (hyperthyroid) and had the radioactive iodine treatment twice. Now I am hypothyroid. I understand that treatment doesn’t remove the Graves’. I am trying to eat healthier and there are Graves’ foods to avoid and eat and there are foods to eat and avoid if you are hypo. The lists conflict. What foods should a person with Graves’ Disease and a hypothyroid eat and avoid? I would appreciate any food advice.
My mom is a doctor and she suspects i might have a thyroid gland disorder. But with school and other things going on, we still haven’t had the chance to go to the hospital and get tested. So, im just wondering whether im just fat (altough i don’t know why since i exercise a lot and don’t really eat that much) or is it possible that the weight gain isn’t my fault and could be an effect of the thyroid gland disorder? :(( Plz help…
Are there any alternative treatments, besides diet and exercize, to treat thyroid and other hormone conditions? I’m looking for non-synthetic drugs, supplements, herbs, or any alternative to medicine. Proper nutritional intake and exercize has helped me stop gaining weight, but I still can’t lose weight, beat the fatigue or manage the girly stuff alone.
The vet wants to run a full blood panel on my dog (nine years old) to see if there is an underlying cause of her newly diagnosed hypothyroidism. Does anyone know what some of the more likely culprits are?
I have a thyroid disorder and i was taking synthroid for about 7 years. I havent taken it for about 2 years now. Has anyone had the same problem. I stopped taking it because I couldnt afford the perscription.
Been taking meds for 6 years off and on and i am so tired of it. is there any natural treatments that will help regulate my thyroid????
I just prefer natural medicine to popping pills that are full of chemicals. thanks for the comment though.
hypo or hyper? or do both disorders cause your hair to become dry?
i just got my thyroid removed due to cancer, and i cant take my hormone substitute until after the iodine radiation. the reason being they want my to become hypothyroid so i can absorb the iodine the best. does that mean my hair will become dry soon, until i can get back on the hormone medication?
I have been on Synthroid a little over a week, and it has been exacerbating my symptoms — headaches, fatigue, constipation, etc. Also I’ve been experiencing a lot of ambiet nervous anxiety since I started. Will things even out? Can I expect to start feeling better?

My hair was always thin anyway, but recently I learned that I have an under active thyroid which apparently affected my hair. It went brittle and thin and was coming out a lot without growing back. It’s been 2 years since I went on meds but my hair is still thin. I’ve also tried different shampoo / cream conditioners both to take away the remaining dryness and flyaway, and to thicken it up but the only one that seems to do anything is Pantene. Does anyone have information on how to make the hair thicken up again? I understood that once my condition was stabilized, everything would get back to normal, but apparently not.
I have just been diagnosed and was looking for advice and experience on what treatments worked and what symptoms others had and how did treatment work specifically and what it didn’t help and what were side effects…
My flatmate has a dry cough and was given syrup containing the above 2 active ingredients. In the leaflet it says not to use if you have high blood pressure, asthma, glaucoma or thyroid disorder. She has hypo-thyroid disorder but is taking thyroxine (so her thyroid is functioning normally).
What is the worst that could happen if she took it? I don’t see how cough syrup could react badly in someone with those really unconnected ailements like asthma and eye problems.
I had the Flu last Novemember and have had chronic fatigue since. I have had two blood tests that point to Hypothyrodism. I haven’t started on meds for it yet because I have also developed serious allergies/allergy-related asthma and I am trying to get that under control first (also started after the flu and thought the chest pain was fatigue related and only after 9mos of complaining, my doctor finally got a clue). I have not had any weight gain so far but I’ve been told that it happens if the problems with the thyroid go undiagnoised long enough. My only concern about this is because a few of the women in my family have been over weight and it has been such a struggle for them for so many years. I am already struggling with debiltating fatigue and allergies I’m not sure I want to add trying to loose weight to the mix either. What has your experience with hypothyroidism and wieght gain/trying to loose the weight been? Any advice?
I’ve been taking armour for about six weeks and I want to decrease my thyroid antibodies!
My grandmother is concerned that if I concieve , the child will be born with an disability of some kind. She saw a girl on tv that was not able to hold her child because she was born without arms. The girl said that it was because her mother had a thyroid disorder. I believe that if God wants me to have a child that is disabled , than he will give me this special child no matter what. God would never give me anything that I could not handle. Thanks for all of your answers.

I’ve just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I know that it has affected my fertility over the past year. Medication for this condition takes about 2 months or so to really kick in. Just want to know if anyone else out there in Yahooland has experienced a successful pregnancy after being diagnosed and then treated for this?
